Sainz Sangria
It’s time for another Grand Prix Eats Cocktail!
This recipe comes to GPE courtesy of my close friend Jill’s Mom. Personally, I’m not a big fan of sweet cocktails which is why I usually avoid sangria (and the hangover that accompanies it). However, this recipe is the perfect mix of citrus tang and effervescence from the soda water. This sangria is also not the recipe to bust out a fancy wine, I recommend using a cheaper red that’s not too sweet, I had some boxed wine that fit the bill precisely.
When Greg and I were in Barcelona in 2016, one of our favourite memories was a night we spent pinxto bar hopping on Carre de Blai, hitting up 7-8 different pinxto bars on a single street. At every stop we would enjoy a few bites like pan con tomate and cod fritters, with either a glass of house wine or frosty glass of sangria. The following morning was not pleasant. This recipe might have its home in Alberta, but it brings me right back to Spain.
In celebration of Spain’s own Carlos Sainz and his impressive 2021 season so far with Ferrari, I decided name this refreshing cocktail of the 2021 Spanish Grand Prix in his honour.
